INTRODUCTION
The development of this course is a result of the introduction of new regulations. The STCW 95 regulations, enforced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on the 1st of August 1998, require maritime administration globally. The course was developed for the training and certification of Officer-In-Charge of an Engineering Watch with regard to the latest standards. The Maritime Administration in Sri Lanka consider it necessary for engineer officers who started their sea career before the 15th August 1998 without a structured pre sea training, to gain knowledge and skills in Mechanical workshop practice as per the Regulation 111/1 and Table A-1 11 of STCW 95. This training course is developed to provide the knowledge and skills as per Table A-111/1 of STCW95.
The trainees who successfully complete the programme are eligible to appear for the Certificate of Competency Officer-In-Charge of an Engineering Watch. For each of these examinations, an unrestricted or restricted examination conducted by the Administration is required along with the other entry requirements.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This course is open for students of following Categories.
1. B.Sc. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering graduates and Marine Engineering Tradesman from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Maldives and Sri Lanka who wish to appear for Officer-in-Charge of an Engineering Watch NCV Examination. They should have worked on board ships as Trainees for at least one year. In the case of Engineering graduates and in the case of others, as Tradesman for at least five years.
2. Holders of MEO Class IV CoC (STCW78 Regulations) or an equivalent who wish to appear for Officer-in-Charge of an Engineering Watch Examination.
3. Holders of Second Engineer Officer (NCV) CoC (STCW 95Requirements)
4. Those who wish to enhance their knowledge on workshop skills.
